Why Me?

We look someone in the eyes, feel a wave of care, and ask ourselves — “Why me?”

Our hearts begin to slow. A home starts being built. We talk for hours, text when we can’t talk, and prioritize falling in love over everything. Why?

Not because nothing else matters — but because sharing life with someone gives everything else its meaning. We go to work with more passion. We look at our children with more hope. We smile at strangers, sharing our faith in a single glance.

All the while asking,

“Why me?”

But why not you? What did you do that was so terrible you don’t deserve someone wanting their life intertwined with yours? What convinced you that you weren’t worthy of someone investing everything they have in you?

Yes, there’s evil in this world. But it’s on you to trust the good when it finally shows up. They’re honest. Trusting. Dedicated. Devoted to you. Believe it.

So turn the question around. Ask yourself, “Why them?” What is it about them that makes you light up at night and dream in the daylight? Why do the creases in your face soften the moment they walk in?

Doesn’t that make you ask — why not you? Why not them? Why not us?
